Target Audiences

After taking the VALS survey I found out that I am a Experiencer/Striver...

You might be wondering what does that mean?? Well first off the VALS is a tool uses in marketing to help creative effective business strategies.
How is VALS used?? VALS is basically a measure of traits such as behavior or personality traits that helps to categorize consumers.
Why is this important?? Well it is important because it allows retailers to know the type of consumer they are trying to target.

Now as I said before I found out that I am a Experiencer/Striver. Which means as an Experiencer I am motivated by myself. I like things that are cool, fun, and sometimes risky. I am also known as in impulse consumer. According to the VALS Types I also tend to spend the majority of my money on fashion, entertaining myself, and of course going out with friends. Which I can't really argue with at all...

The Striver in me, which is my secondary type, shows that I am trendy and fun but very caught up in what others think about me... Once again I can't really argue with that either.

As for the other VALS Types:
  • Innovators: are the independant and successful people.
  • Thinkers: are stable and inspired with knowledge and very conservative.
  • Achievers: are often led by goals and have busy lives.
  • Believers: are like Thinkers but have very strong beliefs and are often religious
  • Makers: are the "pratical" people that like to work hard or make things for themselves.
  • Survivors: are the people who cope to life and its changes and are cautious consumers.

This in my opinion is an accurate way to categorize consumers...As I said before, after taking the survey, I am a Experiencer/Striver and the majority of the description is very accurate..Go try it out and see if what you are!!

A Little History on Forever 21

Don Won Chang and his wife Jin Sook are the founders of the OH So FABOLOUS Forever 21, originally named Fashion 21, in 1984. The first store was located at 5637 N. Figueroa St. in Los Angeles and surprising it is still operating today under it's original name. The first store was very small, only 900 square feet. But little did they know that it would bloom into such a HUGE success.

The sales within the first years increased drastically. The name soon changed from Fashion 21 to Forever 21. With time the business expanded adding new stores every six months in different locations. The size of the stores went from 900 square feet to eventually 24,000 square feet. In 2005 Forever 21 had around 355 stored all over the globe. Forever 21 is now making billions of dollars. $$$$$$

Today Forever 21 has turned into a huge chain of stores. They are known for there stylish and trendy clothing and accessories and in my opinion it is the best store around. With this much success so far I can only imagine how much more there is to come for Forever 21.

Brand Identity

When I think of POLO byRalph Lauren I think of clothing for the people who seek class in their attire. Everyone I know says Polo makes them think of classic and classy business attire.

POLO brand was named after the actual sport called polo which is a sport known worldwide for its class and elegant style. The symbol for polo is a man on a horse who is obviously playing polo. Polo by Ralph Lauren was influenced by the european style but because it was created in America and revolutionized attire among the american upperclass it is a big plus for consumers in america but for consumers in europe as well.

The brands symbol is normally seen with a white background and blue horseman which are just classic, basic, simple colors. Polo has been around for awhile and over time have been very successful therefore opening up a lot of doors for philantrophy. Polo has built a center for treating cancer and prevention, started the pink pony campaign to help raise funds for the research of breast cancer, and a american heroes fund that provide the kids who suffered losses from 9/11 with scholarships.

Polo is known to have redifined america's style of class and elegance. People believe that wearing Polo will provide you with the look of success, class, and sophisticaion all in one. This is because it is Polo's brand identity.

BRITNEY SPEARS

Britney Spears 10 years ago was thought to a pop diva mega superstar.. That was the "brand" "Pop Star Sensation" She seemed to have it all. Fame, Fortune, and Fans that adored her. But recently things haven't been going so well for her. She got married, had kids, got divorced, lost her kids, and some would say lost her mind.
Britney has been under this spotlight since she was like 12 years old and it was only a matter of time before the things got hot!!
The PR Britney Spears got was crazy..Every magazine had her face on the cover, with horrible headlines about her. It broke her down. People looked at her no longer as a star but we saw her as crazy.

When she decided she wanted to try and make a comeback of course no one really believed in her..and the media slandered her for her attempts. They criticized everything she did.

So when you look at it from that point of view, her brand identity was altered by the media attention in a very negative way. But now if you take a look at Britney is coming back strong..sometimes it takes going through the bad to get to the good things in life..and I think its her turn to reclaim whats hers.

GO BRITNEY!!!

Flat Earth

I think the Flat Earth has a fairly good thing going..
A healthier way to snack and eat chips. Makes sense.

I understand the whole slogan.."when pigs fly" and that it is a saying when you are trying to say something is impossible or can't be done, you would say "when pigs fly" and they are trying to say that they have done the impossible by creating these chips..To me it's still a little off somehow.

I dont really know who they are trying to target either. It would seem as if it would be a health conscious vegetarian maybe..and then they have the pig flying. Which in a way seems to make since. Vegetarian=Animal Lover. But I am still not too convinced.

Overall, I think that I would try the chips just to see how they taste. So I don't think they could target young college students any differently. But at the same time it's still sort of up in the air..I guess with those flying pigs... =)

Super Bowl Commercials

My TOP 5 Superbowl Commercials

#5 Would have to be the Bud Light commercial where you see a couple coming to a wine and cheese party. The man comes in with a huge thing of cheese on a plate. He heads into the kitchen and all the boyfriends are in there. The one guys says thats some nice cheese and then the other guy reveals that there is bud light underneath. Then all the guys reveal they have brought beer and even a small TV to watch football. It's very funny. Bud Light always does a really targeting men in there ads.

#4 Would be the FedEx commercial where they have the carrier pigeons delievering mail and packages. But then the guys ask what about larger packages, he proceeds to be shown the HUGE carrier pigeon that is destroying everything. Then he says ok lets switch to FedEx. It is just a funny commercial, typical of a superbowl commercial, that makes you laugh and remember the brand..FedEx

#3 Is the Charles Barkley and Dwayne Wade T-Mobile commercial. Charles or Chuck as Dwayne calls him just added Dwayne into his Fav 5 so he wont stop calling and talking t Dwayne. Once again another funny commercial that makes you laugh and remember the brand..T-Mobile

#2 Is one of my favorites. It's the diet Pepsi Max commercial with all the celebs and people who are nodding off and then they all drink a Pepsi Max and everyone starts bobbing their heads. Its hilarious.

Dun Dun Dun... and #1 is.....Drum ROLL

Justin Timberlake in the Pepsi commercial. This commercial is so cute. This commercial targeted its market very good. Pepsi's whole thing is the "New Generation" since Coke is going with classic.. So by taking a icon like JT and putting him in their commercial is genius. And he is not just in the commercial but you can actually win tickets to see him if you drink Pepsi. Great strategy if you ask me. Wonderful commercial..My Fav!!
